About the Event

Join This is Not an Ulpan and Academia for Equality for a discussion (in English) that explores the radical perspectives and critical uses of Modern Hebrew. What is anti-colonial Hebrew education? How is it used as a tool in the fight for justice and what is its role in Palestinian society? What role did women play in the creation and reshaping of Hebrew literature and specifically the feminist subjectives within it? What is considered “proper Hebrew”, and how is this informed by social knowledge?

The discussion will be facilitated in English by Michal Israeli and we will be joined by Si Berrebi, Yara Gharablé, and Orian Zakai.

Michal Israeli is a TINAU Hebrew teacher and journalist, and is studying Modern Language Education at the University of British Columbia. Si Berrebi is a lecturer at the Department of Hebrew Language and Sociolinguistics at Ben Gurion University. Yara Gharablé is a TINAU Arabic teacher…
