About the Event

A geopolitical foraging tour in Ein Lavan/Walaje.

A unique (and tasty) opportunity to learn about plants and ecology in the Jerusalem hills.

In the foraging tour, we will learn about the principles of responsible foraging, which plants we can eat and use in the late spring, and how best to pick them. You will have the chance to forage and take home plants together with recommended recipes and tips for how best to prepare them!

Additionally, we will talk about what nature can tell us about the history and current geopolitics of this area, with topics including: traditional terrace agriculture; ecological succession following the Nakba of 1948;  the politics of protected plant species and water use; the planned building project in the Lavan Ridge and the campaign to save this area.

The tour will take place in English and we will learn the names of the plants we forage in English, Hebrew and Arabic,  as well as what stories can the names of the plants tell us.
