About the Event
Militarism permeates through nearly every facet of life in Israel proper and plays a particularly poignant role in identity formation.
In this workshop, we will focus specifically on the intersection between Gender and Militarism in Israeli society and talk about the connections between masculinity and militarism, and hear critical opinions regarding the “fight for gender equality” in the army as well as opinions regarding the need for queer-feminist anti-militarist resistance and movements.
This event will be led by New Profile, a feminist anti-militarist organization leading the demilitarization movement in Israel.
New Profile believes that militarism is embedded in all aspects of Israeli society and exacerbates violence, racism and sexism whilst weakening civilian and democratic values. In this 60-minute event, we’ll address questions like: what are the militarist norms in Israeli society? How are militarization processes embedded in education, culture and everyday life?
There will be time for audience questions, and registration for the event is free – but you are encouraged to contribute whatever you felt it was worth at the end to support New Profile’s efforts to demilitarize Israeli society.
