For such a small land, Israel/Palestine has an incredible number of varying cultural influences and intersecting identities. Thus, it should probably not come as a shock that feminism in the region is an incredibly diverse social movement with many different understandings and struggles. In this class, we will explore the challenges faced by different women, their accomplishments in Israeli society and their various world views. We will examine together how the state of Israel influenced the socioeconomic and political situations of women and the different mechanisms women used to push back against oppression and advance their causes. Through discussions, writing tasks and reading/ viewing different media, we will deepen and broaden our ability to communicate about complex and relevant topics at an advanced level of Hebrew.
