Walking Struggles in TLV - April 11 - June 27 | 30h

  • Started Apr 11
  • 1,200 Israeli new shekels
  • Aharon Chelouche Lane

In 2021, Tel Aviv-Yafo "won" the title of the most expensive city in the world in a ranking from the Economist. On the way to this dubious title, quite a few populations were trampled, specifically residents who fought for their home, their health, their well-being and their future. From Ajami in Jaffa, to the Central Bus Station in South Tel Aviv, to Givat Amal in North Tel Aviv, this city has known many struggles and protests. The struggles we will cover in the course tell a broader story about politics, economics, priorities and racism, whether they happened in response to urban policy or are part of a nationwide protest that took place in Israel's cultural and economic capital. In this special course, we will learn about the struggles through our feet. In each lesson we will go to a different area of the city where a struggle took place, we will get to know the history of the place, the chain of events and we will see with our own eyes what a protest left behind. Sometimes we will meet residents who took an active part in the protest and talk to them. Get to know more and less attractive sides of the world's most expensive city.
