Description

Let’s be honest, grammar has a reputation for being boring and tedious. But actually it can be incredibly fun and the element that rounds out your language education- making everything come together. In Arabic, verb conjugation is the process of how verbs are derived from a set of root letters (usually 3 consonants) and how they change to reflect personhood, gender, plurality, voice, and other aspects. The set of consonants communicates the basic meaning of a verb, e.g. ك.ت.ب 'write’, ق.ر.أ read', أ.ك.ل 'eat'. Almost all verbs can be categorized in one of ten verb forms (also called verb measures, stems, patterns, or types). Once you get the hang of the verb sets- EVERYTHING becomes easier. The Verb System Workshop 1 - In this workshop we will draw the basic lines of the verb system in Arabic, understand what morphology is and how it will enable us to reach a better understanding of the language. In terms of verb tenses, we’ll talk about the present-future, active participle, and modal verbs. As well, we will learn how and when to use each form of the verb. The Verb System Workshop 2 - In this workshop we will deal with basic verbs in different tenses. We’ll discuss the past and the imperative or command. As well, we will talk slightly about the negation of verbs.
