When the Jews faced the problem of growing Nationalism in Europe, Zionists offered one solution - give Jews a nation state in their biblical ‘homeland’. The problem was - people were already living there and they weren’t happy about the whole idea. The conflict with the Palestnians cannot be separated from the story of Israel and we will explore this story and how it is seen through Israeli eyes. We will try to understand how we got here - from the war of '48, the occupation of ‘67 and up to the seemingly hopeless reality of today. We will attempt to understand different aspects of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories - historical, social, political, cultural and legal. This course is for learners who are beyond the basic conversational level and can communicate in Hebrew in the present and past tense and form their own sentences. You will get more creative and confident with the language and be able to communicate with more complexity. The heart of this course is speaking, but there will also be reading, writing and listening work.
